From the moment Sanjee popped up on my socials a few years ago I just knew I was going to draw him one day. I'm always drawn to folk who are strong in character and unashamedly themselves. It gives me strength in my own character and I try to role model that feeling with the kids and young people I work with.
When I saw Sanjee's fabulous outfit at the 2023 British book awards I knew the time had finally come! I put pencil to paper and sketched out some quick gestures. From there I began working digitally.
In my head I saw Sanjee in a different style to how I normally work in. Strong fluid lines were swapped out for a more "cut out" storybook style. Then I went to town, playing with different textures. I'm super happy with how the final image turned out!
